100 Years of Connectivity: George Kessler Parks and Boulevard System
October 1, 2012 -
November 30, 2012
Open call to regional artists with a size restriction. Eligible artwork shall depict the George Kessler Park and Boulevard System to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Kessler was hired to supervise the revision of the park system and beautify the riverbanks. Kessler’s plan connected the nine miles of rivers running through the city via parkways and boulevards. Landscape artists George Kessler, Arthur Shurcliffe and Adolphe Jaenicke connected Fort Wayne’s neighborhoods, parks, rivers and trails system allowing them to become the urban landscape they are today. Appropriate subjects would be the parks and boulevards (Rudisill, State, and Anthony) and would include the Shurcliffe legacy – Brookview Neighborhood and Spy Run Creek, Wildwood Park Neighborhood and Jefferson Boulevard, Lafayette Place, views from the Fort Wayne Rivers including the bridges. A map of the George Kessler Park and Boulevard System is available for download on Artlink’s website (www.artlinkfw.com) and in the gallery.
