Why I Create: Elizabeth Mikautadze

Elizabeth Mikautadze is the founder of Mikautadze Dance Theatre. Her choreographic process moves towards building emotional, magical, exploratory, and dramatic imagery by combining artistic elements, often through collaboration with other artists.

Elizabeth Mikautadze earned her BFA in dance performance from The Boston Conservatory. Prior to graduating, she trained at The Hungarian State Ballet School and at The Milwaukee Ballet. While residing in New York City, she trained extensively at The Martha Graham Dance Center and Alvin Ailey Dance Center and she danced professionally with Mereminne Dancers and Buglisi/ Foreman Dance Company. Elizabeth moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana and began pursuing her dream of directing a dance company, Mikautadze Dance Theatre(MDT), founded in 2008. MDT has performed as guest artists in IPFW’s Purely Dance and in numerous other productions in the Fort Wayne area. Elizabeth is passionate about teaching dance and developing choreography at IPFW, at The Fort Wayne Dance Collective, within Mikautadze Dance Theatre, and while serving as a guest artist.
