ACPL, 900 Library Plaza, Fort Wayne, IN 46802

"We believe prejudices and stereotypes can be interrupted and dismantled by creating a positive environment for conversation; an environment where real people are 'on loan' to readers and where difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered.

Human Library - Fort Wayne will come alive at the ACPL on August 4th. Real people in our community will serve as Books, graciously sharing their personal experiences of challenge, discrimination and stigma with the Readers (attendees) who check them out and open them up to listen and learn."

Friday, August 10th, 5-8pm
Artlink Contemporary Gallery, 300 E Main St, Fort Wayne, IN 46802

Artlink is proud to present Encores: 40 Years of Artlink, an exhibition celebrating our 40th anniversary on Friday, August 10th from 5:00 to 8:00pm. The exhibition will be on view August 10th through September 14th, with a 40 Amazing Years / 1 Big Party on Saturday, September 8th.

In August of 1978, Artlink Alternative Artspace was founded in an apartment on Broadway in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana. A community of artists from all backgrounds gathered together around the mission to showcase new and emerging artists and art forms. Forty years later, Artlink continues to uphold the spirit of that original mission. Encores: 40 Years of Artlink will take viewers through Artlink's long and important history in the arts community.

In 1979, Artlink debuted Encores, a special exhibition of works by eleven practicing Fort Wayne artists that had previously exhibited that year. Encores: 40 Years of Artlink will feature forty influential artists on Artlink's history. These artists have served as founders of the organization, staff and directors, curators, teachers, and much more. Each participating artist has worked to keep Artlink's mission alive through their support and dedication to art in this community. Alongside these artists, a timeline of Artlink's history will emerge through historical documents, postcards, photographs, and newspaper articles from Artlink's archives.

"Our September 21, 2018 Art This Way Art Crawl event is an essential component of the success of this art installation program, and this event cannot happen without community support. The Art Crawl increases awareness of the project, educates the community, and exposes the public to the arts.

Each location along the Crawl will have a live band, a featured artist performing live, free appetizers, a cash bar & a gallery show. Money raised at this event will go directly to funding public art in downtown!

Art This Way is a public art program operating under the umbrella of the Fort Wayne Downtown Economic Improvement District, FWDID. Art This Way works to raise funds and liaison between property owners and artists to bring large scale professional art installations into Fort Wayne. The current focus of the organization are the alleyways within a two block area of downtown, 'double plus' alleys that run from Washington, Wayne & Berry Streets with two cross streets, Harrison & Calhoun. The property owners within these two blocks have generously signed agreements to participate in this program. In the spring and summer of 2018 we are installing four new murals within this target area!"
